ABOUT
MISSION STATEMENT
We are a national organization of youth, students, and community activists organized to (re)educate, celebrate, and advocate for issues that affect our Filipino communities in the United States and in the Philippines. We recognize that Filipinos and Filipino-Americans have a shared culture that has been heavily shaped by a history of colonialism as well as resistance. We also recognize that the struggle for economic and cultural sovereignty has not ended in the Philippines. As an organization, we seek to work cross-culturally in reclaiming our humanity and to work collaboratively with “other” minority groups to refuse ongoing systems of “benevolent assimilation.”
VISION STATEMENT
“We stand for a just and humane world, where social, political and economic rights are respected and not violated; where relationships are based on equality, fairness and justice, and not on exploitation, domination and oppression;
We believe in diversity in society, where people from different cultures treat each other with respect and not with prejudice; where different communities live side by side and work hand in hand in making this world a better place to live in; where individuals can realize their full human potential regardless of race, religion, nationality, color, creed or gender.
We envision Filipinos and Filipino Americans as responsible and productive members of society, contributing to the collective effort to attain a just and humane society.”
GOALS
Educate:
To initiate and support dialogue that allows our communities to recognize the historic and cultural connections that exists within our hybridized/hyphenated identities as Filipino-Americans. In learning about our past, we will be better equipped to create opportunities for positive changes in our present.
Advocate:
To build, maintain, and strengthen our networks. We seek to create a unified voice with those who are taking part in the work to end social, environmental, and economic injustices. We recognize that the systems that are subjugating and marginalizing peoples in Filipino communities are recreated throughout the world. We seek to build diverse networks in an attempt to maintain our humanity and live in peace regardless of color, gender, religion, or geographic boundary.
Celebrate:
To enjoy ourselves as we share our culture with one another and those around us. As we discover and rediscover the rich heritage of the Philippines we enthusiastically present and represent to global community at large.
